In early 1983, Vizzini started the preliminary study for the design of a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) frame for the brand-new Lamborghini Countach, which was never officially presented. The Countach Evoluzione boasted a 100% carbon fiber composite bodywork and was about 500 kg lighter than the reference Countach models.
The upgraded engine meant that a new lump and bumps were created that put paid to any rear visibility at all – but body styling louvres, shades and scalps made this the quintessential monster of 1980s yore. Just 112 examples of this new creation will be made, and each one will sport world-class performance thanks to a V12 engine that’s infused with a supercapacitor enabling electric powertrain.
Lamborghini Diablo. In 1989 the sun finally set on the Countach. In its place, the Lamborghini Diablo, a new poster child for ‘90s kids and beyond. Never to be out-done by the Scuderia, the Diablo packed 492PS (362kW) from its 48-valve 5.7-litre Bizzarrini V12 and could match the F40’s 202mph top speed.

Eventually, Mr. Lamborghini would pave the way for his new company to make many breathtaking vehicles, including the Countach. Fast forward a couple of decades, and we find that Mr. Lamborghini liked the Countach so much that he bought his own example for his personal use. In May of 1980, he took delivery of a white LP 400 S II, low-body unit.
On the subject of testing new materials, Lamborghini started to process a textile fiber made with very rigid, very strong and very light carbon fibers in 1985. Its first application was on the Countach Evoluzione. With this car, the unbreakable bond and technological capabilities of Lamborghini with carbon fiber were born.
